Design Project

The three pages below are the starting point for your groups' design project pages.

  1. Group 1 Design Project Pages
  2. Group 2 Design Project Pages
  3. Group 3 Design Project Pages

Your responsibility as a group is to add to your group's design project pages the following:

  1. A list of who is responsible for what (with contact information) and a schedule for completing each component of the project (to be revised as the project progresses)
  2. A list of your group's appointments with Jeff Sears to go over the writing component of the project (each group will be divided in half, with at least one visit for each sub-group). After each meeting you must post a summary of what you went over in your meeting
  3. A continuously revised draft of the Design Project Report you are working on (both the preliminary and final reports). Make sure to review the Design Project Assignment Page regularly (The Preliminary Report whould have an intro and then cover items 1-8)
  4. A week by week diary of who did what as you worked on the project.

The Preliminary Report is due Oct 9th. Your report should be in coherent paragraphs (not just a list). It should contain designs for two alternative devices. Make sure to set out the constraints and criteria, discuss the pros and cons for each alternative, and include a decision matrix and a decision on which alternative you wish to construct. (You are not required to do a decision matrix in Engl 101 until you go over it in Engr107, although I suggest making an attempt early on.) Each team will also submit as part of the preliminary report, a proposed budget and schedule for project completion for the chosen alternative. The schedule may be in the form of a Gant chart.

The report will be in the form of a Word document. If your first alternative is not approved, you then have one additional week to submit a revised budget and schedule for the approved project. Each team will choose their own constraints and criteria but you must indicate these in your reports. Constraints and criteria can not be changed after the Preliminary Report is approved.

Each group will be split in half for visits to Jeff Sears to go over the writing component of the Design Project. We will schedule these required meetings during on · Mon Oct 1st (two meeting slots 730-815 and 815-9pm) · Wed Oct 3rd (two meeting slots 730-815 and 815-9pm) · Sun Oct 7th (12-1245, 1245-130, 130-215, 215-3, 3-345)
